About Big River

Big River Nursing and Rehab is committed to providing your loved one with the highest quality of skilled care in the St. Louis area. While providing exceptional care is always top of mind, we understand the great importance of maintaining dignity, respect, and quality of life. Whether nursing and rehab is required short-term or long-term, our goal is always to make our home your home!

Serving The Cedar Hill Area Since The 1980s

Big River Nursing and Rehab has proudly served the Cedar Hill area since the 1980s. We are
located in Jefferson County’s beautiful countryside, offering residents a tranquil place for their rehabilitation and a welcoming environment for those who call Big River home.

Not only do each of our rooms have a picturesque view, but our residents also can enjoy a gated courtyard that allows for an unobscured view of the surrounding woods.

We ensure the full comforts of home for our residents, as well as the modern facilities required to carry out each resident’s personalized care plans. To further improve the quality of care, we are in the process of a full remodel.

We have a state-of-the-art therapy and rehab gym, as well as the technology required to expand our in-house skilled services.

We specialize in memory care and ensure each member of our staff is certified through the Alzheimer’s Association. We also offer highly specialized Cardiac Care, and we are 1 of 3 nursing homes in the state, trained by Barnes Jewish Hospital to accept LVAD patients.

Active residents will enjoy our seasonal trips to The Muny, as well as scheduled holiday and local events. Residents can also head out and about on the JeffCo Express which provides weekday transportation to local shopping centers and area attractions.

Resident rooms have been redesigned to be more comfortable and functional. Most of our resident’s rooms are shared, but private rooms are available for both hospice and general care. All rooms can be personalized with personal décor, and even with your own small items of furniture. We have also updated our shared resident areas to create versatile spaces to socialize and entertain.

Daily Activities

Our Activity Director creates a daily activity schedule, which includes arts and crafts, games, lectures, music classes, cooking classes and fitness classes.

We host a monthly birthday party for residents, multiple holiday and seasonal events, and fun-filled activities.

We provide seasonal transportation to The Muny and periodic group outings. One of our most popular outings is the holiday light tour during the month of December.

Big River is also a stop on the JeffCo Express, which offers three scheduled weekday runs to local stores and attractions.

We also provide transportation to Dr. appointments on an as-needed basis.

Our goal is to provide each of our residents with menu selections that are both nutritious and delicious. Upon admission, each of our residents will meet with the Dietary Director and Registered Dietitian. During this visit, dietary needs will be identified, and personal dietary preferences will be discussed. While the daily menu is scheduled well ahead of time, residents can always choose from our delicious set of alternate menu selections.

In our effort to encourage an active and healthy social life, we have 3 dining rooms—one in
our Memory Care unit, a Restorative Care dining room, and our Main dining room, which
offers an area to socialize with visiting family. Of course, residents are welcome to dine in the comfort and privacy of their rooms. The choice is theirs.

All of our meals are well-balance, home cooked, and have as many fresh ingredients as we can source locally.

Our dining room features comfortable seating, elegant décor, and the atmosphere of a local St. Louis restaurant.

We offer multiple on-site amenities, designed to enhance quality of life. Our fully emodeled amenities include:

  • 3 Dining Rooms
  • Group Activity Room
  • Beauty Salon
  • Therapy Gym
  • Wi-Fi throughout the facility

“Mom still likes to get out an about, but she requires that little extra care provided by RoyalOak. The downtown location is perfect for her!”
