At Oakwood Estates Nursing and Rehab, we understand that moving your loved one into a nursing home for short-term or long-term care is a major decision. You are sure to have a few questions. Some of the most frequently asked are covered below.

We offer both short-term and long-term nursing and rehab. This includes respite care, hospice care, recovery after a hospital stay, or a long-term move to Big River. We create a personalized care plan for each of our residents, which includes physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT) and speech therapy (ST), and respiratory therapy (RT). We also provide specialized wound care, memory care, hospice care, and respite care and will soon be offering infusion and cardiac care. In order to provide our valued residents with the therapy prescribed in their personalized care plan, our in-house therapy staff is available to provide the required therapy 7 days a week.
Yes. Above and beyond our certified nursing assistants (CNAs), we have RN coverage 24 hours each day. Each of our nursing and rehab facilities also has an on-call Medical Director. Some facilities have a full-time nurse practitioner.
Yes, we accept Medicare—as well as private insurance and private payments. Medicare is not designed to cover all expenses, but our admissions team will work with you to determine what coverage you or your loved one qualifies. Medicare Part A requires a minimum 3-day hospital stay and a referral from a physician. The exact number of days covered varies case-by-case, but the maximum benefit period is 100 days. However, you or your loved one may not qualify for maximum coverage. Daily co-insurance is applied from 21 to 100 days. Above and beyond Medicare, we also accept Medicaid, private insurance, supplemental insurance, and private payment. If you or your loved one qualifies, we also accept financial assistance from the State of Missouri made available under the Medicaid program.
Our goal is to provide each of our residents with menu selections that are both nutritious and delicious. As part of the personalized care plan, upon admission, each resident will meet with our dietary director. During this visit, dietary needs will be identified, and personal dietary preferences will be discussed. While the daily menu is scheduled well ahead of time, residents can always choose from our delicious set of alternate menu selections.
While most of our resident rooms are shared, they are designed with curtain dividers to provide each resident with privacy, dignity, and respect. Nurses, CNAs, and other skilled staff members have access to each room at all hours of day or night to meet resident care needs. All common areas are shared spaces and are designed and decorated to provide the look and feel of home.

Friends and family are always welcome to visit their loved ones at Big River. We ask that you keep each resident’s treatment and therapy schedule in mind, as to not disrupt their personalized care plan.
